About

I am a PhD scholar in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. I joined IIT Kanpur in August 2020 and was selected for prestigious Prime Minister's Research Fellowship in May, 2021 cycle. My thesis supervisor is Prof. Ashok Kumar and research focus of our lab (AK Biolabs) is to develop next generation biomaterials for tissue engineering, bioprocess engineering and regenerative medicine. I completed my M.Pharm  from Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, New Delhi, and my B.Pharm from University of Kashmir, Srinagar.

Current Research Focus

We aim to design a stimuli-responsive smart cardiac patch delivering regenerative molecules for treatment of myocardial infarction. This formulation can be delivered through minimally invasive spraying and will form the cardiac patch in-situ. This novel strategy not only aims to promote cardiac regeneration by attenuating adverse cardiac remodeling but may also alleviate the complications of open heart surgery.

The research focus was to manipulate the expression of "SCN5A" (Cardiac sodium channel) and "BRCA1" (Tumor suppressor) genes in-vitro in H9c2 cells and find out their role in cardiomyopathy. We knocked down these genes by lentivirus-mediated RNA interference and analysed different cellular pathways related to hypertrophy and energy metabolism under normal conditions and isoproterenol stress.
